Becoming an Amazon Warrior

My Journey Raising Daughters & Building with AWS

On the week of Wonder Woman Day 2020— October 21st — and having reached four months at my new role working with a well-funded fintech startup that focuses on Amazon’s cloud technology, I find myself reflecting on my journey in becoming an “Amazon Warrior”.

Don’t mistake my dad-jokes for sarcasm, I have a long-running affection for Princess Diana of Themyscira and I do truly believe now is the time for everyone — especially women — to be diving into technology to suit up and take to the battle for the future.

A Time for Amazons

When writing on the internet, I often consider my primary audience not to be the internet at large, but rather my three daughters in a few years when they discover their dad was a blogger in the early 21st century. I would be remiss to say that this post, more so than most, is dedicated to them.

More than anything, I wish for them to feel like a daughter of Zeus, gifted by an upbringing that taught them to be fierce fighters yet a compassionate leader. Just like how the bottomless roster of male heroes taught me that the first step to overcoming challenges is taking action, I see the new slate of female heroes — from Wonder Woman to Black Widow, Captain Marvel to The Wasp — filling…
